Famous Oakland Churches

Oakland is the eighth largest city of California in the Unites States. It has a deep history of Spanish settlers who came here in late 18th and 19th century. Today, this city has a population of over 440,000 people and is the 41st largest city in the nation of the United States. In terms of trade and industry, Oakland is known for its oak, redwood and other timber industries; hence it got its name. It is also home to the Transcontinental Railroad ways. In the 1910s and 1920s there were some severe earthquakes that shook the city and caused a number of people to leave the area, sparking a small recession. But the city managed to make a recovery and today Oakland has a large population and is a pivotal part of the Bay region.

There is a broad level of spirituality in the people of this city. Churches of both types denominational and non-denominational are located here and many different religious faiths are practiced. You will find Catholics, Baptists, Pentecostals and even some non-denominational churches here.

There are some landmark churches in Oakland as well; one of the surrounding landmarks is the “Oakland California Temple”, an operating temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This temple has been in the city for more than 40 years and was built and constructed in the 1960s before being dedicated in 1964 by David O. McKay.

The “First Unitarian Church of Oakland” is a landmark church that is noted for its stain glassed windows. This church is also a historical landmark in the city that is registered in the National Register of Historic Places. Other notable churches have a strong presence of many denominations in the city like the Presbyterian Church, the Baptist church, Assemblies of God churches, Methodist and many more churches. You will also find Catholic Churches in the city as well.

The “Presbyterian Church” was formally organized in 1887. This church has a large sense of community that is still kept intact. It holds a number of activities and ministries for different age groups. Because of the sheer size and number of churches in the area, it is often not difficult to find a church here. These churches even have Christian Counseling Centers who help individuals with problems related to addictions, bad habits, sins, divorce, etc… Counselors are graduates in their field and even have a license to open such Counselling Centers. They try to explain these individuals that the Bible provides strength, direction and healing for all types of problems. They give emphasis on Biblical teachings based on Jesus Christ’s life. According to them God is the ultimate healer. Children, teenagers or individuals having problems in their lives can contact these counselors for help. These counselors use the truths of Bible and wisdom of life to help the needy people.
